Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling 103,437 model year 2006-2013 Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star vehicles equipped with specific Detroit Diesel engines. The affected vehicles were manufactured between January 20, 2006, and February 20, 2012. The recall involves the pump-to-rail high-pressure fuel line support system, which is sensitive to assembly torque and may be damaged or loosen during service work for other repairs.
If the fuel line supports loosen, the fuel line may crack and leak. A fuel leak can create a road hazard that increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
DTNA will notify owners, and authorized service facilities will replace the high-pressure fuel line support system free of charge where necessary. The safety recall began on April 27, 2012. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
