What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a potential fire hazard caused by electrical arcing in the air conditioning system, which meets the criteria for a Severe rating due to the risk of significant property damage and injury.
Plain-English summary
Turtle Top is recalling certain 2008 through 2011 Odyssey, Odyssey XL, and Odyssey LT vehicles built on Ford, General Motors, and Freightliner chassis. These vehicles were manufactured between February 11, 2008, and October 26, 2011, and are equipped with a Carrier Corporation Gen V EM-1 evaporator.
The recall addresses a defect in the EM-1 evaporators where a fuse holder in the motor assembly may allow the fuse to loosen over time due to temperature and vibration. This loosening can result in high resistance and arcing. If sufficient arcing occurs, the fuse holder may melt and potentially cause a fire.
Turtle Top will notify owners and provide information on how to obtain a retrofit kit from Carrier along with repair instructions. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall began on March 21, 2012. Owners may contact Carrier at 1-800-348-7440 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
