Plain-English summary
Spartan Chassis, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 incomplete recreational vehicle chassis manufactured between January 4, 2010, and January 26, 2011. The affected vehicles are equipped with specific electronic control modules (part numbers 2791-NN2E-001 or 2791-NN2E-002).
The defect involves the vehicle speed control system. When the driver applies the brake, the cruise control may fail to cancel. Additionally, after the cruise control is set, the vehicle may exhibit an inadvertent, moderate increase in speed until it reaches the governed speed. If the driver is unaware of the speed increase or if the brake fails to cancel the cruise control, the driver may have reduced control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Spartan will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on January 9, 2012. Owners may contact Spartan at 1-517-543-6400 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
