Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (hitch frame breakage) that poses a risk of personal injury and property damage, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 ATC car hauler trailers equipped with extended hitches. These trailers were manufactured between December 1, 2006, and September 16, 2011. The affected models include the SS, Fast Lane, QST, Contender, GTS, Cargo, and Boss Hoss.

The recall addresses a defect where the 12-inch extended hitch frames are breaking near the front cross member. This failure is caused by insufficient material used in the frame hitch. If the hitch breaks, the trailer could separate from the towing vehicle, which increases the risk of loss of control and poses a risk of personal injury and property damage.

ATC will repair the aluminum trailer hitch free of charge. The safety recall began on November 10, 2011. Owners may contact ATC at 1-877-441-2440 for more information or to schedule a repair.
