Idle Free Systems, Inc. is recalling certain auxiliary power units (APUs) sold from October 2009 to May 2011. These units were installed as aftermarket equipment on heavy trucks.

The defect involves the welds on the metal housing of the frame rail system, which may crack and tear. If left unchecked, the welds may completely fail, allowing the APU to fall from the frame rail. If the unit fails while the vehicle is being operated, it could strike another vehicle or a pedestrian, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
