Isuzu, Chevrolet, and GMC Trucks Recalled for Engine Oil Leak Risk
NHTSA is recalling 2006-2007 Isuzu, Chevrolet, and GMC trucks because improperly tightened oil pipe bolts may cause oil leaks and engine seizure.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improperly tightened bolts) that can lead to engine seizure and sudden deceleration, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury risk.
Plain-English summary
Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Isuzu NPR, NQR, and NRR, GMC W3500, W4500, and W5500, and Chevrolet W3500, W4500, and W5500 vehicles. The recall involves 2,992 vehicles where the oil pipe bolts were not tightened properly during the production process.
If the bolts are not adequately tightened, they may loosen after prolonged vehicle operation, resulting in oil seepage or leakage from the packing seals. As oil is lost, the oil warning lamp will illuminate, and there may be abnormal engine noise. Loss of oil can cause engine seizure. If the engine seizes while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle may experience sudden deceleration, leading to an increased risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the packing seals with new ones and tighten the bolt with a specified torque at no charge to the owner. The safety recall began on January 28, 2011. Owners may contact Isuzu at 1-800-255-6727 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
