Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Jaguar XK and model year 2010 Jaguar XF vehicles equipped with V8 5.0L gasoline engines. The recall addresses a defect in the in-tank electric fuel pump system where the fuel pump relay may not be energized following a vehicle start-up cycle. This issue can result in an inadequate supply of fuel to the engine.
The defect can cause fuel starvation, leading to engine stumble and a subsequent engine cut-out with minimal warning. This sudden loss of power could potentially cause a crash. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before August 30, 2010.
Owners should contact their authorized Jaguar dealer to have revised software downloaded to the vehicle free of charge. Owners may also contact Jaguar at 1-800-452-4827 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
