BMW Recalls 2007-2009 Motorcycles for Front Brake Line Leak Risk
BMW is recalling specific 2007-2009 R 1200 and K 1200 series motorcycles because front brake lines may split and leak, potentially causing brake failure.
What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that could lead to brake failure and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2009 R 1200 and K 1200 series motorcycles manufactured between August 2006 and May 2009. The affected models include the R 1200 ST, R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure, R 1200 R, R 1200 RT, and K 1200 GT.
The recall is due to the routing of the front brake lines, which may be under strain during riding due to vibration. If the strain is significant, the brake line could split and develop a leak. If the brake fluid reservoir runs empty as a result, the front brakes could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install new brake lines containing a protective sleeve along a portion of the lines free of charge. The safety recall began on September 20, 2010. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
