Jayco Recalls 2010 Insignia Motor Homes Due to Brake Pedal Defect

Jayco is recalling certain 2010 Insignia motor homes because a brake pedal component may disengage, potentially reducing braking or interfering with the throttle.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that could result in a vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jayco, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2010 Insignia motor homes built on Freightliner chassis. These vehicles were manufactured between October 14, 2009, and January 15, 2010, and are equipped with Kongsberg Power Products Systems adjustable brake pedals.

The drive pin that secures the brake pedal arm to the rest of the assembly may become disengaged. This defect may cause a reduction in vehicle braking or cause the brake pedal to move out of position and interfere with the throttle pedal function. A reduction in braking or interference with the throttle pedal could result in a vehicle crash.

According to the recall notice, all affected units are in dealer stock and none have been retail sold. Therefore, owner letters to customers will not be sent. Dealers will receive kits to inspect and install a C-clamp on the adjustable brake pedal. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit safercar.gov.
