Plain-English summary
Playskool, a division of Hasbro Inc., is voluntarily recalling approximately 273,000 spillproof cups in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves plastic cups intended for children aged 6 months and older, which feature a twist-on lid with a flexible, yellow spout. The cups were sold under seven different models, including 6 oz. and 8 oz. Spillproof Cups, Spillproof Trainer Cups, and Easy Grip Spillproof Cups, some with Teletubby character decals.
The hazard exists because the flexible spout on the cup can tear between the slitted opening, causing a small piece of material to come loose. This poses a choking hazard to young children. Playskool has received 115 reports of the spouts tearing, and six children reportedly had pieces in their mouths. There have been no reported injuries.
These cups were sold nationwide from January 1998 through July 1999 by major retailers, including Walmart and Target, for between $3 and $6. Parents and caregivers should stop young children from using these cups immediately. To obtain a free, redesigned lid, consumers should contact Playskool at (800) 752-9755 or visit www.hasbro.com.
