The recall involves two specific models: the "Royal Zipper Low" with a metal teddy bear clasp and the "White Zipper Low" with a metal heart clasp. Both models feature white rubber soles, canvas uppers, and middle zippers, and were available in toddler sizes 5 through 10.
The metal clasps attached to the zippers can come off, creating a choking hazard for young children. Payless ShoeSource is aware of two instances where children ingested the metal clasps, with one child reportedly starting to choke. The sneakers were sold at Payless ShoeSource stores nationwide from March 1998 through June 1998 for approximately $10 each.
Consumers should immediately remove these sneakers from the reach of children. To obtain a refund, consumers can return the shoes to their local Payless ShoeSource store or mail them to Payless ShoeSource Sneaker Recall, 3231 E Sixth St., Topeka, KS, 66601, with their return address enclosed for a full refund and postage reimbursement.
