The hazard exists because the juice extractor's filter and lid can break apart, projecting metal and plastic into the air. Moulinex has received three reports of the filter and lid breaking apart, which resulted in cuts to one consumer's fingers. The affected units were sold nationwide at department, mass merchandise, and appliance stores from 1990 through 1995 for approximately $50 to $80.

Consumers should stop using the recalled juice extractors immediately. To identify the affected units, check the bottom of the unit for the model number and date code. The date code is a 5- or 6-digit number; for 5-digit codes, the last three numbers must be lower than 075, and for 6-digit codes, the last three numbers must be lower than 795. Consumers should call the Moulinex (Krups) consumer service number 1-800-526-5377 to receive a prepaid shipping label for the return of their product. The product will be repaired and sent back to the consumer, or if no parts are available, a refund will be issued.
