Over 135,000 of these fittings were manufactured for use in these types of pools and spas during the past 25 years. The fittings are not used in above-ground or vinyl-lined pools.

The hazard exists when the inlet fitting is improperly installed as an equalizer or suction fitting to cover pipes carrying water out of a pool or spa. In this configuration, a bather's hair may be drawn toward the cover and become entangled in the fitting, holding the bather's head under water. Sta-Rite is aware of two drownings resulting from hair getting trapped in the inlet fitting used on an equalizer pipe line in a swimming pool and a spa.
