Four Seasons General Merchandise of Vernon, California, is voluntarily recalling approximately 6,500 Diplomat "Funny Train" and "Elephant" educational pull toys. The recall was initiated after CPSC testing revealed that the toys contain small parts that can break off, creating a potential choking hazard for young children.
The toys, which cost about $2.00, were sold in food stores, discount stores, and retail stores in Southern California between March and June 1994. The elephant toy is pink plastic, and the train is blue plastic. Both are 8 to 9 inches long and 7 inches high, featuring four red plastic wheels, a movable clock, two sets of abacus beads, and a 5-inch white pull cord. They were packaged in plastic bags with cardboard headers reading "Diplomat Play and Learn Education Toy No.3062/16151H, Made in China."
Consumers should take the toys away from children immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. To date, CPSC and Four Seasons have not received any reports of injuries involving these toys. The recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
