These units were sold nationwide at home improvement centers for $45 between November 16, 1993, and March 30, 1994. The remote controls were sold as separate accessories and installed by consumers in the upper canopy of various Hunter ceiling fans.

The recall is due to a production error where the receiver's exterior antenna, mounted in the ceiling fixture, may present a shock hazard. Although the antenna is insulated, consumers may receive an electric shock if they touch the bare end of the antenna. CPSC learned of the issue after Hunter Fan Company reported one consumer complaint regarding an energized antenna; no injuries were reported.

Consumers can identify the affected units by the model and serial numbers located on a nameplate on top of the receiver. The serial numbers for the recalled units run sequentially from 029936 to 051679. Consumers who own these remotes should contact Hunter Fan Company at (901) 743-1360 for instructions on how to disconnect the fan and return the antenna. Consumers will be mailed a new remote control free of charge.
