Plain-English summary
Gerry Baby Products Company is recalling approximately 176,000 Model No. 455 "Splash Seats" manufactured and distributed nationwide and internationally between March 1993 and March 1994. The affected seats are identified by white suction cups and cartons containing UPC numbers 0-37434-45508-3 or 0-37434-45500-7. Seats with blue suction cups or a blue sticker reading "Redesigned Suction Cups!" are not affected.
The recall was issued because some white suction cups may not adequately stick to bathtub surfaces or adhere to the base of the seats. This defect creates a potential risk that the seat may tip over, causing injury to the occupant. Gerry received four reports of tip-overs and four claims that suction cups separated from the seats, but no injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
Consumers should stop using affected Splash Seats and check the color of the suction cups. Those with white suction cups should contact Evenflo's Parent Link Consumer Resource Center at (800) 233-5921 for assistance, as Evenflo has taken over the recall response following Gerry's closure. Consumers should not contact Evenflo regarding seats with blue suction cups.
