Newco, Inc. is recalling its "Swing-N-Slide" molded plastic Teddy Bear Swings. The product is a brown teddy bear-shaped plastic swing seat designed for children under 45 pounds. The recall was initiated because the swing's waist and crotch straps can pull out of the seat, creating a risk that infants or toddlers could slide out and fall.

Newco and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) learned of the issue from consumer reports of three incidents where toddlers slid out of the swing when the straps pulled out. The children involved in these incidents received minor cuts and bruises. The swings were sold nationwide in hardware and home center stores from February to June 1993. Approximately 13,000 units were sold for about $34 each.

Consumers should immediately stop using the Teddy Bear Swings. Newco asks consumers to cut off the waist and crotch straps and the plastic safety bar, and return these parts to Newco to receive a free redesigned Teddy Bear Swing.
