Plain-English summary
Rainbow Mountain, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,300 model 3210 "Toddler Beds With Guard Rail" sold in the midwestern and eastern United States between January 1992 and November 1992. The metal-framed beds, which were sold disassembled in white, red, or blue, use standard crib mattresses that were not included in the sale. The beds were imported from Taiwan and distributed to stores in the affected regions.
The recall addresses a hazard where a space exists between the side guard rail and the mattress, creating a risk that a child could become entrapped. CPSC and Rainbow Mountain are aware of three incidents where children became entrapped in this gap, but no injuries have been reported. The beds are intended as transition beds for children who have outgrown cribs but do not yet need full-sized beds.
Consumers should contact the store where the bed was purchased or Rainbow Mountain, Inc. at 1-800-253-5410 to obtain a free retrofit kit. The kit includes a nylon mesh sleeve that fits over the side guard rail to block the opening. Consumers who prefer a refund can return the bed to the store of purchase for a full refund of the purchase price.
