Miracle Recreation Equipment Company is voluntarily providing retrofit kits for Tornado spiral slides to eliminate hazardous spaces near the top of the slide. These spaces can catch children's jacket hood strings or other strings, posing a strangulation risk. The slides were manufactured by Miracle Recreation Equipment Company and sold nationwide from 1972 to 1991.
Approximately 3,000 of these slides are believed to still be in use at schools, parks, and daycare centers. The slides are 10 to 16 feet high and feature a colored fiberglass channel with a stainless steel bedway. Miracle Recreation Equipment Company and the CPSC have received reports of three incidents where children were found hanging by jacket hood strings or caught by a key on a string around their neck.
Consumers should not allow children to play on these slides until the retrofit is safely installed. Owners should contact Miracle Recreation Equipment Company at 1-800-523-4202 to obtain the retrofit kit. The company is also contacting purchasers by mail.
