Diversified Megaflex Home Exerciser Recall Due to Leg Press Injury Risk

Diversified Products is recalling Megaflex Home Exercisers because the leg press mechanism may cause foot slippage and leg injuries.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (customer complaints of injuries), but no specific injury counts or fatalities are detailed in the source text, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for reported harm without critical injury data.

Plain-English summary

Diversified Products of Opelika, Alabama, is recalling approximately 66,000 Megaflex Home Exercisers, model numbers 15-7500 and 15-7600. These units were sold throughout the United States in retail stores between February 1991 and January 1992 at a cost of approximately $400.00. The affected units are identified by the label "Megaflex" printed across the top of the included exercise bench.

The recall addresses a hazard where the freely rotating middle bar on the bench press mechanism may cause a user's feet to slip off the press mechanism while performing the leg press exercise. If this occurs, the user may be struck in the leg and injured as the press mechanism forcefully returns to the start position. Diversified Products informed the CPSC of this potential hazard after receiving several complaints from customers who had sustained injuries while using the equipment.

Consumers who own these exercisers should discontinue performing the leg press exercise outlined in the product's manual. The problem was permanently corrected on units manufactured after 1991. Diversified Products is out of business, and the repair kit previously offered is no longer available.
