Zenith Specialties, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,140 Black Cat Finale Board fireworks devices in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The device consists of four 18-inch tall tubes mounted on a 9-1/2 inch square board. The tubes are labeled "Sky Mirage," "Diamonds in the Sky," and "Golden Sparkling Lite."
The recall is issued because the device may tip over during operation and fire its charges horizontally, which could result in serious injury to persons nearby. While the CPSC is not aware of any incidents involving this specific product, the agency is aware of one death involving a similar device manufactured by another company that tipped over and struck a three-year-old in the head.
These devices were sold through approximately 25 wholesalers to retail stores nationwide since May 1991. The retail price was approximately $49.95.
