Starr Display Fireworks, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling its #100 Original, #100 Z, and #100 Gold and Silver Palm 4 Shot Rack fireworks devices. Each device consists of four tall tubes mounted on a 3-1/2 inch by 13-1/2 inch board with two support feet. The tubes are labeled with specific names such as "#100 Silver Palm" or "#100 Gold Palm" and include the text "Starr Display Fireworks, Fargo, North Dakota."
The recall is due to a safety hazard where the devices may tip over during operation. If this occurs, the fireworks may fire their charges horizontally, resulting in possible serious injury to persons nearby. Although the CPSC is not aware of any incidents involving these specific products, the Commission is aware of one death involving a similar device manufactured by another company that tipped over and struck a three-year-old in the head.
Approximately 7,500 of these devices were sold since 1990 through approximately 100 wholesalers to retail stores nationwide. They retailed for approximately $40. Consumers are urged to discontinue use immediately and return the devices to the retail store where purchased for a full refund.
