Hamilton Beach/Proctor Silex, Inc. is voluntarily replacing certain Hamilton Beach model 230 and 232 hand-held mixers in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall is due to reports that the units' internal motor cooling fans broke, causing fan pieces to contaminate food.

Between April 1990 and April 1991, approximately 600,000 of these mixers were distributed nationwide. The company reported approximately 15 incidents of fan blade breakage to the CPSC. Several of these incidents allegedly involved minor injuries to the mouth and teeth of consumers who ate food prepared with the affected mixers.

Consumers can identify affected units by checking the model number and date code on the underside of the mixer housing. Model 230 units with date codes 1290 through 1691 and Model 232 units with date codes 3890 through 1791 are included. Consumers should contact Hamilton Beach/Proctor Silex, Inc. at 1-800-341-3333 to receive a replacement mixer.
