What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard from small parts in a toy for young children, which fits the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Direct Connection, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 500 "Musical Dolls" in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The affected dolls are model numbers DC-541 through DC-552. These 12-inch cloth wind-up dolls feature bendable limbs, colorful yarn hair, and play the song "It's a Small World" when the wind-up key is activated. Only dolls equipped with plastic button eyes are subject to the recall; dolls of the same style with printed eyes are not included.
The recall was initiated after CPSC testing revealed that the plastic button eyes could separate from the dolls' heads. These detached eyes are small parts that pose a potential choking hazard for young children. The dolls were imported by Direct Connection, Inc., and sold nationwide through retail stores and gift shops from April 1990 to August 1990 for $25.00 each. The label located underneath the dress indicates the dolls were made in the Philippines.
Neither Direct Connection nor the CPSC is aware of any injuries involving this product. The recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. Consumers are urged to take the toy away from young children immediately and return it to the store where purchased for a refund. Alternatively, consumers may mail the product to Direct Connection, Inc. at 15364 E. Valley Blvd., City of Industry, CA 91746, for a full refund of the purchase price and shipping costs. For more information, California residents may call 1-818-855-2888, and consumers outside California may call the toll-free number 1-800-582-6565.
