What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard from small parts in toys intended for young children, which fits the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Oriental Trading Company, Inc. is voluntarily recalling two models of wooden trains in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves the "Goods Train" and the "Train Alphabetic Spelling" models. These toys were sold by mail order catalog and by retailers from December 1988 to the present.
The recall is being conducted because small parts, including wooden pegs, wheel axles, smoke stacks, and the alphabet man's head, can detach or separate. These small parts present a choking hazard to young children. Testing by the CPSC under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act confirmed that these components could come off. Neither the CPSC nor the company is aware of any injuries involving this product.
Approximately 2,200 units of the Train Alphabetic Spelling and 3,500 units of the Goods Train were distributed nationwide. Consumers are urged to take these toys away from young children immediately. Owners should return the trains to the place of purchase for a full refund, or return them to Oriental Trading Company at 4206 South 108th Street, Omaha, NE 68137 for a refund plus postage if purchased by direct mail catalog.
