The recall addresses a safety issue where the plastic eyes on the dolls may come off, creating a choking hazard for young children.
The company acknowledged receiving 76 consumer reports regarding model #8900 and #8901 dolls where the eyes had detached. While no injuries have been reported, the recall is being conducted to prevent the ingestion of small parts. More than 100,000 of these dolls were sold nationwide since July 1987 for prices ranging from $18 to $30.
Consumers are urged to take the dolls away from young children immediately. To obtain a full refund, consumers should return the dolls to the place of purchase or to Tonka Products at 2950 Robertson Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45209. A prepaid mailing label or additional information is available by calling 1-800-548-7262 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
