Plain-English summary
Little Headworks Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling its children's Wooden Painted Puzzles. The paint on these puzzles contains lead levels as high as 12.84%, which significantly exceeds the CPSC regulatory limit of 0.06% and presents a lead poisoning hazard. The company identified the violation and reported it to the CPSC.
The affected puzzles are made of wood, imported from Mexico, and painted with various colors. More than 400 units were distributed in Texas, Oklahoma, California, New Mexico, and Nevada between May 1986 and May 1987. Neither the CPSC nor Little Headworks Company is aware of any lead poisoning incidents associated with these specific puzzles.
Consumers who purchased these puzzles before August 1987 should remove them from use by children and return them to the store of purchase for a complete refund. Little Headworks states that paints currently used on new products comply with lead limits. For more information, consumers can contact Little Headworks at 213-490-8480 or the CPSC toll-free hotline at 800-638-CPSC.
