Plain-English summary
De Llano's Mexican Products Co., Inc. is voluntarily recalling children's chairs that contain excess lead in the paint. The paint on these chairs contains lead levels as high as 1.15%, which exceeds the CPSC limit of 0.06% and may present a lead poisoning hazard. The chairs are made of wood, painted red with straw seats and multi-colored flowers, and were imported from Mexico.
More than 9,000 chairs were distributed in Texas, Missouri, and Arizona in 1985. The chairs sold for approximately $1.50. Neither the CPSC nor the manufacturer is aware of any lead poisoning incidents associated with these chairs. The issue was brought to the CPSC's attention by officials in the Springfield, Missouri, Department of Health.
Consumers should remove these chairs from use by children and return them to the store where they were purchased for a complete refund. For further information, consumers may call De Llano's Mexican Products Co., Inc. at 512-722-1775 or the CPSC toll-free hotline at 800-638-CPSC (2772).
