Plain-English summary

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and QVC are recalling approximately 198,000 units of Toy Puzzle Vehicle Sets, also known as Battery Operated Puzzle Vehicle sets. The recall includes 16-piece Puzzle Track Play sets featuring a battery-operated train, fire engine, or school bus that runs on a plastic track. The sets also include miniature street signs, traffic cones, and a battery. QVC item number T16876 is printed on the exterior of the brown box packaging.

The recall was issued because the surface paints on the puzzle pieces and components contain excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard. The products were manufactured in China by Merchant Media Corp. of Framingham, Mass., and sold exclusively by QVC through its televised shopping programs, website, toll-free number, and Studio store from September 2002 through December 2007 for about $20. No injuries have been reported in connection with these products.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy puzzle sets away from children. Those who purchased the sets from QVC's television program or at QVC.com were sent a package by mail containing return information. Consumers who purchased the sets at the QVC Studio store should return the product to the store where purchased for a full refund. For additional information, consumers can contact QVC at (800) 367-9444 between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. ET or visit www.qvc.com.
