The recall is issued due to a potential electric shock hazard if the bucket becomes full of water or tips over, allowing water to be sucked into the vacuum cleaner and soak the motor.

The hazard could result in a severe or fatal electric shock if a user touches a metallic part of the vacuum cleaner while standing on a wet floor. No accidents have been reported by purchasers or users since the product was introduced in March 1980. Sales of the attachment were discontinued in February 1981, after approximately 1,000 units had been distributed.
