The recall was initiated in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) because testing revealed that one bear contained a potentially hazardous sharp wire in the stuffing. CPSC staff believe a significant portion of the other bears may also contain such wires, which could work their way through the fur and cause lacerations. Additionally, testing simulated normal use and abuse by a young child, during which some bear noses fell off, posing a potential choking hazard. No injuries have been reported to CPSC.

Consumers are urged to return their Squeeze Me Bears to the retailer where the toy was purchased for a full refund. The distributor has ceased making further shipments of the toy and will alert its customers to the hazards and recall procedures.
