Gazelle USA Recalls Urban Arrow Cargo Electric Bikes Due to Fall Hazard

Gazelle USA is recalling Urban Arrow cargo electric bikes because a broken seat post bolt can cause the seat to loosen, creating a fall risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fall hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Gazelle USA LLC is recalling approximately 1,032 Urban Arrow cargo electric bikes sold in the United States. The recall involves Urban Arrow Family, Shorty, Cargo L/XL, and Tender 1000/1500 models manufactured in the Netherlands. These bicycles feature aluminum frames with reinforced foam cargo boxes and seat posts equipped with two silver bolts.

The recall is due to a fall hazard where the front bolt in the seat post clamping mechanism can break. This failure can cause the seat to become loose, posing a risk of the rider falling. The company has received nine reports of damage or wear to the saddle-seat post connection, but no injuries have been reported.

The affected bikes were sold at specialty bike stores nationwide from 2016 through 2022 for approximately $9,000. Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and contact Gazelle USA to receive a free replacement seat post and saddle. The replacement parts can be installed by the consumer without special tools or by an Urban Arrow dealer at no charge.
