What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (minor injuries like scrapes and bruises), but no serious injuries or deaths are noted, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products.
Plain-English summary
Razor USA LLC is recalling approximately 20,000 E300 electric scooters. The recall involves blue or silver scooters with barcodes beginning in 100620-03 through -09. The model number appears on the tube connecting the head tube to the deck, and barcodes can be found on the steering stem, battery tray, charger, and packaging.
The hazard is that a weld on the handlebar can break, causing the handlebar to detach. This can cause the rider to lose control and fall from the scooter. Razor has received 25 reports of welds breaking on the handlebar, including three reports of minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises.
The scooters were sold at Pep Boys stores nationwide and various Internet retail sites from January 2006 through October 2006 for between $190 and $230. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact Razor USA to obtain a free repair kit.
