Trek Recalls 2026 Electric Bicycles for Loose Chainring Bolts

Trek Bicycle Corporation is recalling approximately 700 Model Year 2026 electric bicycles because the chainring bolts can come loose and separate from the bike, creating a fall or crash hazard. No injuries have been reported.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recalled bicycles present a fall and crash hazard due to loose chainring bolts that can separate from the bike. Although no injuries have been reported, Trek received three reports of the hazard occurring, confirming it is not theoretical. This qualifies as a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, meeting the criteria for a High severity recall.

Plain-English summary

Trek Bicycle Corporation is recalling approximately 700 Model Year 2026 Domane+ ALR 5, Domane+ ALR 6 AXS, Checkpoint+ SL 6, and Checkpoint+ SL 7 electric bicycles sold between July 2025 and September 2025. The bicycles were sold through independent bicycle retailers and Trek authorized retailers nationwide and online for between $5,000 and $8,000.

The chainring bolts on the affected bicycles can come loose, causing the chainring to separate from the bike. This creates a fall or crash hazard to the rider. Trek has received three reports of the chainring coming loose on the recalled bikes, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers who own one of the recalled bicycles should immediately stop using them and contact an authorized Trek dealer to schedule a free repair. A dealer will tighten the chainring bolts to the correct specification. Trek will provide consumers who participate in the recall with a $20 in-store credit toward Trek, Electra, or Bontrager merchandise, valid through December 31, 2026.
