What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: One reported burn injury and substantial property damage from a lithium-ion battery fire meet the rubric criterion for Severe (score 4): 'significant injury/property-damage reports.' Although the hazard poses a risk of serious injury, no deaths have been reported.

Plain-English summary

This recall affects approximately 17,970 Swagtron SG-5 Swagger 5 Boost Commuter Electric Scooters sold through Walmart and Sam's Club nationwide and online (Walmart.com, SamsClub.com) from May 2018 through October 2024. The scooters were sold in black or silver and are identified by "SWAGGER 5" printed on the handlebar stem.

One incident resulted in a fire that caused a burn injury and substantial property damage to a residential apartment building.

Consumers who purchased these scooters should immediately stop using and charging them. Cut the throttle cord and dispose of the entire product following local and state hazardous waste disposal procedures.
