Cadet Apex72 Electric Heaters Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Glen Dimplex Americas is recalling about 12,900 Cadet-branded Apex72 electric heaters because the fan can malfunction and fail to turn on, causing the unit to overheat and ignite internally. One heater fire has been reported with no injuries.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire hazard) where one incident has been reported. Although no injuries occurred in the reported case, the hazard is confirmed through real-world malfunction, not purely theoretical. This meets the High severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Glen Dimplex Americas Ltd. is recalling Cadet-branded Apex72 high wall electric heaters rated between 1200 and 1600 Watts. The recalled units feature a white dust cover and are wall-mounted a minimum of six feet off the ground. Approximately 12,900 units are affected across multiple models (HW128, HW132, HW151, HW162, HW162BP5, HW168, and HW168BP5) manufactured between March 1, 2021 and February 29, 2024, or older depending on model.

The fan in these heaters can malfunction and fail to turn on, causing the unit to overheat and ignite internally. The firm has received one report of a heater fan malfunctioning and causing the unit to ignite, though no injuries have been reported.

The heaters were sold nationwide through electrical distributors including Platt, Crescent Electric, CED, and others from February 2014 through February 2024 for approximately $190. Consumers can identify recalled units by the manufacturing date in DD-MM-YY format on the rating label visible through the bottom of the air outlet grill.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled heaters and contact Glen Dimplex Americas at 866-673-9880 (8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET, Monday–Friday), [email protected], or www.glendimplexamericas.com for a free replacement heater and installation by a qualified technician at no cost.
