Plain-English summary
Getallfun, of Aurora, Illinois, is recalling approximately 1,140 units of 216-Piece 5mm Magnetic Ball Sets. The sets contain small, loose neodymium rare-earth magnets sold in a clear plastic case with a portable tin storage box.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission tested the magnetic ball sets and found they do not comply with mandatory federal toy safety regulations. The magnets fit within CPSC's small parts cylinder and exceed permitted strength limits. When swallowed, high-powered magnets can attract each other or other metal objects, becoming lodged in the digestive system and causing perforations, intestinal twisting or blockage, infection, blood poisoning, and death.
The product was sold through Getallfun's physical store in Aurora, Illinois and online at Getallfun.com from May 2021 through October 2023 for approximately $20 per set. No injuries have been reported related to this specific product. However, CPSC estimates that 2,400 magnet ingestions were treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 through 2021, and CPSC is aware of seven deaths involving ingestion of hazardous magnets, including two outside the United States.
Consumers should stop using the recalled magnets immediately, keep them away from children, and contact Getallfun.com to receive a prepaid return label.
