Plain-English summary
XpressGoods is recalling approximately 728 units of Colorful Metal Neodymium Magic Magnetic Balls (5mm diameter). The product was sold online at www.xpressgoods.com from July 2021 through May 2022 for approximately $30.
The CPSC determined the magnetic ball sets do not comply with federal toy safety regulations. The magnets exceed the permitted strength and are small enough to fit within the CPSC's small parts cylinder. If swallowed, the high-powered magnets can attract each other or other metal objects, becoming lodged in the digestive system.
When magnets lodge in the digestive system, they can cause perforations, twisting, or blockage of the intestines, as well as infection and blood poisoning. The CPSC has documented 2,400 magnet ingestions treated in hospital emergency departments from 2017 through 2021 and is aware of seven deaths from magnet ingestion involving similar hazardous magnets.
