Ecnup Kids Bike Helmets Recalled Due to Head Injury Risk

Ecnup kids bike helmets sold on Amazon do not meet federal safety standards for coverage, stability, and labeling. The helmets can fail to protect the head in a crash.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (protective equipment that fails to meet federal safety standards) with a defined hazard (head injury from impact protection failure). No injuries or deaths have been reported, so the score is at most 3 per the rubric for theoretical hazards without reported harm.

Plain-English summary

Ecnup is recalling about 215 kids bike helmets in extra small size (fitting head circumference of about 18-1/2 to 20-1/2 inches) sold exclusively on Amazon.com from January 2022 through February 2023 for between $20 and $30. The recalled helmets come in pink, purple, blue, "dinosaur blue," or "aqua ocean world" with red removable padding, black straps, and a black buckle. The serial number SL712-202201 and November 2022 are printed on a white label inside the helmet.

The recalled helmets do not comply with the coverage, positional stability, and labeling requirements of the CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. As a result, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Ecnup for a full refund. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps, email photos of the helmet with the straps cut off to [email protected] to prove destruction, and dispose of the recalled helmet. Consumers may also contact Ecnup by email at [email protected] or through the Amazon.com messaging portal.
