Multi-Purpose Kids Bike Helmets Recalled for Head Injury Risk

Ouwoer Kids Bike Helmets sold on Amazon from March to November 2022 fail to meet federal safety standards and may not protect children in a crash. About 120 units are affected; no injuries have been reported.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The helmets pose a direct risk of head injury to children by failing to meet federal safety standards for impact protection, placing this in the "risk-of-harm products" category. No injuries or deaths have been reported, which prevents a higher classification under the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Ouwoer Kids Bike Helmets with production date 202201 are being recalled because they do not comply with CPSC federal safety standards for bicycle helmets. Specifically, the helmets fail to meet positional stability and impact attenuation requirements, meaning they can fail to protect a child in the event of a crash.

The recalled helmets are red with black straps and a black buckle. About 120 units were sold exclusively on Amazon.com from March 2022 through November 2022 for approximately $30 each. The helmets were manufactured by Huizhou Lanova Outdoor Product Company of China and distributed by Xiamen Ouwoer Trading Co. Ltd., also of China.

No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps and email a photo of the destroyed helmet to [email protected] as proof. Ouwoer Direct is contacting all purchasers directly and can also be reached by phone at 213-583-9060 (5 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday) or through their Amazon page.
