Kids' Bike Helmets Recalled for Failure to Meet Safety Standards
Chau River Sports Outdoors is recalling about 200 kids' bike helmets sold on Temu.com because they fail to meet federal safety requirements and may not protect children's heads in a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The helmets fail to meet federal safety standards for a protective product designed to prevent head injury in children, creating a risk of significant harm even though no injuries have been reported to date. The hazard is serious and directly related to the product's core safety function.
Plain-English summary
About 200 kids' bike helmets in size small are being recalled by Chau River Sports Outdoors. The helmets were sold exclusively on Temu.com from June 2023 through January 2024 for between $16 and $40. They came in pink or blue with a sea world print and orange or blue with a dinosaur print, all with black padding, black straps, and a black and red buckle. The model number KY-E008 is printed on a white label inside each helmet.
The helmets do not comply with the CPSC federal safety regulation for bicycle helmets, specifically the dynamic strength of the retention system, impact attenuation, and certification requirements. As a result, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury to children wearing them.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Chau River Sports Outdoors for a full refund. To receive a refund, consumers must destroy the helmet by cutting off the straps, send photos of the damaged helmet through Temu.com's messaging system at the Chau River Sports Outdoors store page as proof of destruction, and then dispose of the helmet. For more information, consumers can email [email protected] or send an onsite message through Temu.com.
