The treestand is a black hang-on style hunting platform with a flip-back seat and foot rest. The product was sold nationwide at retailers including Dick's Sporting Goods, Al & Bobs Sports, and Scheels, among others, from August 2021 through October 2021 for $60 to $80.

The hazard involves the plastic-coated cables used to secure the standing platform. Under certain conditions of use, the crimps on these cables can slip, causing the standing platform to release from the tree. This creates an immediate fall hazard to users at elevation.

Big Game Treestands has received reports of ten incidents in which the treestand cables released, causing consumers to fall. Two injuries have resulted from these incidents.

Consumers who own a recalled treestand should stop using it immediately and contact Big Game Treestands for a remedy. The manufacturer offers either replacement cables or a full refund. For replacement cables, the company will arrange pick-up of the original cables and delivery of replacement cables to the consumer's address at no cost.
