What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (crash hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Burley Design LLC is recalling about 780 Dash X FM frame mount child bicycle seats (model number 924004). The recalled seats have a serial number beginning in P924 and a lot number beginning in the letter D or E. The serial and lot numbers are located on the lower rear of the child seats on a white label with "BURLEY" printed on it, and "DASH X" is engraved on the rear of the seat near the top.

The recall is due to a crash hazard. The reclining plate that holds the child bicycle seat in place can detach, making the child seat unstable. This instability can cause the rider of the bicycle to lose control. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled seats were sold at various bicycle retailers and online at Burley.com, REI.com, and Amazon.com from April 2020 through July 2020 for about $190. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled seats and contact Burley at 800-311-5294 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, email [email protected], or visit burley.com to click on the “Safety Recall Information” link. Burley will provide instructions on how to identify and dispose of the recalled seat and how to receive a free replacement child seat.
