What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (emergency alert device) where the primary safety function may fail, but no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
GreatCall Inc. is recalling Lively Mobile Plus model GCR4 emergency alert devices. The recall involves approximately 44,300 units manufactured between January and April 2019. These devices are silver and black, feature "GreatCall" printed on the front, and have the model number GCR4 and date codes 19.01 or 19.03 on the back. The devices are worn on a lanyard or clipped to clothing to provide emergency communication and fall detection.
The recall is being issued because the call button on the device can fail when pushed by the consumer in an emergency. This failure could prevent the user from contacting emergency services when needed. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with this defect.
The devices were sold at Best Buy and Walmart stores nationwide, as well as online at greatcall.com and amazon.com, from April 2019 through May 2019 for between $25 and $50. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled devices and contact GreatCall to receive a full refund. GreatCall is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
