Plain-English summary

Miles Industries Ltd. of Canada is recalling approximately 1,000 Valor H5 gas fireplaces in the United States. The recalled fireplaces are fueled by natural gas or propane and feature a fully enclosed rectangular sheet metal box with a shatter-resistant glass front and a mesh barrier screen. The model and serial numbers are located on a rating sheet behind the trim.

The recall is due to a burn hazard where the trim around the fireplaces can leak hot exhaust air. Miles Industries has received one report of mantle charring, but no injuries have been reported. The fireplaces were sold in six different trim options from June 2014 through March 2018 for about $5,500 at Northeast Hearth & Home, Sutter Home & Hearth, Wallace's Stove & Fireplace Hearth stores, and other retailers nationwide and online. An additional 1,900 units were sold in Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fireplaces and contact Miles Industries to schedule a free repair. Consumers can reach Miles Industries toll-free at 866-420-3360 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at www.valorfireplaces.com by clicking on “H5 Recall Notice”.
