Plain-English summary

illycaffè S.p.A. is recalling approximately 65,000 8.8-ounce (250 gram) whole bean coffee cans due to an injury hazard. The recall involves medium, dark roast, and decaf varieties where the canister is missing an air valve on the bottom. The affected cans have a best-by date of 10/2019, 11/2019, or 12/2019 printed on the bottom and feature the "illy" logo with a red, black, or green accent line.

The hazard exists because the lid can detach suddenly with force when the can is opened, which can cause injury. No injuries have been reported to date. The cans were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Kroger, Shoprite, Sur La Table, Target, Whole Foods, Williams Sonoma, and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com and Jet.com, from November 2017 through May 2018 for about $15.

Consumers should not open or use the recalled coffee cans. They should contact illy toll-free at 855-282-4682 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email [email protected], or visit www.illy.com/caninfo to obtain a free replacement product.
