Plain-English summary
Briggs & Stratton is recalling approximately 201,000 units of 3000 PSI pressure washer surface cleaners sold in the United States, with an additional 5,400 units sold in Canada. The recalled products are black, red, or gray and feature the Briggs & Stratton or Craftsman brand names printed on the top, with "3000 PSI" molded into the housing. These surface cleaners are designed to clean outdoor surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, and stone walkways and connect to pressure washers rated up to 3000 PSI.
The recall is due to a hazard where the surface cleaner's spray bar can break and detach from the central hub. This failure causes broken pieces to strike consumers, posing an injury hazard. Briggs & Stratton has received five reports of the spray bar detaching, including one incident where the spray bar struck an operator, resulting in a cut on the knee that required sutures.
The affected surface cleaners were sold at Briggs & Stratton dealers, Lowe's, and other department, home, and hardware stores nationwide, as well as online at www.Lowes.com, from March 2010 through February 2018. The products were sold for between $50 and $80. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled surface cleaners and contact Briggs & Stratton for instructions to register online for a free replacement.
