The recall involves specific serial numbers: 2014033403 through 2014034552, 2014082112 through 2014082861, 2014149995 through 2014151266, and 2014346290 through 2014346803. The affected mowers are black, rear engine mounted units.
The hazard exists because the side discharge chute may not be fully secured to the mower. If bolts are not properly tightened, they can be forcefully discharged from the mower, posing an injury hazard to consumers. The firm received one report of a bolt discharging forcefully and breaking a window.
These mowers were sold exclusively at Sears stores nationwide between February 2010 and May 2010 for about $1,400. Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled riding mowers and contact Sears for a free inspection and repair. Sears is sending letters to consumers with information on scheduling the inspection and repair.
