SmartPool Recalls PE12 PoolEye Alarms Due to Switch Failure
SmartPool is recalling PE12 PoolEye pool alarms because a reversed switch may prevent the alarm from sounding if a child enters the water. No injuries have been reported.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety device failure that poses a risk of harm (drowning) to children, but the source explicitly states that no injuries have been reported, which limits the score to High per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
SmartPool LLC is recalling approximately 1,600 PE12 PoolEye submersible swimming pool alarms for aboveground pools. The recall is due to a defect in the ON/OFF activation switch on the siren, which is reversed. This defect can cause the alarm to fail to alert consumers if a child enters the water.
The recalled alarms consist of a submerged sensor tube with a float switch and an audible siren fixed to the outside of the pool. "PoolEye" is printed on the front of the siren, and "PE12" is printed on the manual. The UPC code 628208165125 is printed on the product's packaging. The alarms were sold between June 2016 and July 2016 for between $70 and $80 at retailers including Family Leisure, Pool and Spa Depot, Amazon, Doheny Enterprise, Target, and Walmart. They were also provided at no cost as part of a pool package.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately contact SmartPool for a free replacement alarm. Consumers can reach SmartPool toll-free at 888-560-7665 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, via email at [email protected], or online at www.smartpool.com. Consumers should always supervise children in and around water.
