GE Lighting is recalling approximately 35,000 high-intensity discharge (HID) LED replacement lamps. The lamps are 5 1/2 inches in diameter by 11 1/2 inches long and weigh about 3 pounds. They were sold in a blue and white carton with "ED37/EX39 base" on the front and "PC:21259" on the back. The recalled lamps have the GE logo and specific model information (LED165/M400/740, 165W, 4000K, 20000 Lumens, China) on the white plastic base, along with date code K213 or K245.
The lamps are used in lighting fixtures for warehouses, schools, and gymnasiums. The recall is due to a hazard where the lamp can separate from its base and fall onto consumers below, posing an impact hazard. The firm has received four reports of the lamp separating from the base, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.
The lamps were sold in the United States through GE Lighting authorized dealers and electrical distributors, including Crescent Electric Supply Company, Graybar, and W.W. Grainger Industrial Supply, from September 2015 through December 2015 for between $250 and $300. Additionally, about 500 units were sold in Mexico. Consumers should immediately contact GE Lighting for a free repair kit and installation guide.
